I understand why some books are banned. I don’t agree with the banning of books or the burning of books. I understand that some books go against some people’s beliefs but not everyone has the same beliefs. The book I chose is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The book is banned because “it was deemed “anti-cop,” and for [the use of] profanity, drug use, and sexual references” (Admin). I don’t agree with it. The book does deal with social issues like police brutally. It is trying to showcase how it affects not just the people involved but the community too. Some articles like THE HATE U GIVE BANNED BY KATY, TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICT state that the school has banned it for the use of the N word. Libraries should defend books. Libraries shouldn’t ban books. In the Library Bill of Rights it states that people should be able to read whatever they wish to read no matter what other people say.
